*“After six years came Mazra, the bishop of Bet Zabdai, in the territory of Hedajjab with a caravan of traders. And as he heard that a community of Christians was present here, he went secretly to them. And as he brought them to trust him, they let him into their house and told him, that they have been without a bishop for six years, and called upon him to lay his hand upon Deacon Shemshon and ordain him as bishop. And he consented to their good wishes and laid his hand upon him, because he heard that he was of Deacon Peqida. And so he began to lead this godly community and let them live on grass of power. And we went out and began to preach to the villagers, who sat around in rings, worshipping the fire. And they threw in it small children, during their great festival … And when he preached to them the length of two years, he baptized many of them, and the Christian faith spread out considerably … But when the affairs became known to the princes … they bound him, and after many torments they killed him.”

الترجمة العربية:

“بعد ست سنوات جاء مزرا، أسقف بيت زبداي، إلى إقليم هيداجاب ومعه قافلة من التجّار. ولما سمع بأن هناك جماعة من المسيحيين موجودة هناك، ذهب إليهم سرًّا. وحين كسب ثقتهم، سمحوا له بدخول بيتهم، فأخبره أنّهم بلا أسقف منذ ست سنوات، وطلبوا منه أن يضع يده على الشماس شمشون ويُرسِمهُ أسقفًا. فوافق على طلبهم ووضع يده عليه، لأنّه سمع أنّه من شُماسي بقديدا. وهكذا بدأ يقود هذه الجماعة المتّقيّة، ويتيح لهم أن يعيشوا على “غَسَلِ السلطة” (حرفيًّا: “عشب القوة”). ثم خرج واستهلّ يكرّز في القرى القريبة، التي كانت جالسة في حلقات تعبد النار. وكانوا يلقون فيها أطفالاً صغاراً في مناسبتهم الكبرى … ولما خبّرهم الكرازة لمدة سنتين، عمد كثيرين منهم، وانتشرت عقيدة المسيح انتشاراً كبيراً … ولكن عندما عرف الأمر لدى الأمراء … قيدوه، وبعد عذابات كثيرة قتلوه.”
